Contineo served as the project manager, civil designer, and permit consultant for this signature Waffle House restaurant just steps away from Centennial Olympic Park and miles away from its typical roadside locations. Situated in a bustling district of downtown Atlanta, the building has its roots in the music and film industry of the early 20th century and housed several commercial enterprises over the decades. Even deeper is the pre civil war-era sewer system, hand-built from brick and measuring six feet tall by four feet wide, that still serves the city center today.
Our team studied these considerations to ensure that the project adhered to neighborhood appropriateness guidelines. The result is the successful conversion of this historical building to modern use as a showcase restaurant, a little larger than usual and designed to tell the story of an iconic Atlanta brand while serving hearty food – scattered, smothered, and covered – to a new generation of hungry customers in a new millennium.
