Contineo transformed a dilapidated, three-sided site at the complicated intersection of Benjamin E. Mays and Fairburn Road into a popular community park designed to meet LEED design standards. Amenities include a spacious communal area, large playground, parking to accommodate 12 vehicles, and a plaza with inspirational monolithic sculptures. A unique feature is the bio-retention pond designed to efficiently handle stormwater while serving as an aesthetic focal point.
The site’s unusual peninsular footprint, in a tight space where two busy roads converge, presented a unique challenge. To accommodate traffic, the Contineo team coordinated continuously with the Department of Transportation throughout the project’s timeline.
Today the park serves the surrounding community, along with an adjacent top-tier medical research facility, and an assisted living center, as a place for recreation, connection, and contemplation.
